File limits and credit rules
- Current standard rate: 1 credit per animation second, rounded up once per GIF. An 8.4-second GIF uses 9 credits. Count one full loop; repeated playback and processing wait time do not count.
- Welcome credits are granted once, shared across pages, and used first. Spend them across multiple GIFs or combine them with purchased credits. Per-file rounding can reduce the total animation time covered.
- Each GIF: up to 30 seconds, 300 frames, 36 million decoded pixels, 10 MiB and 1024 × 1024 pixels. Decoded pixels = width × height × frames.
- Frames must have explicit delays of at least 20 ms. Files with ambiguous playback timing are rejected before upload.
- Choosing a file or switching modes does not upload it. Your selection can stay in this browser for up to 30 minutes while signing in or adding credits.
- Confirmed failures release the reservation; an unknown task stays reserved until checked. Reprocessing a saved result creates a new task and uses credits. Results are saved for 24 hours. Usage and availability limits apply.

How to remove a GIF background with AI
- Choose an animated GIF. We check its size, animation duration and file limits locally.
- Sign in with Google. Review your balance and the displayed credit cost, then confirm cloud processing.
- Wait for your saved animated result to appear automatically; you do not need to refresh or resubmit.
- Review the full animation and download your transparent GIF without a watermark. Save it within 24 hours.
When to try AI GIF background removal
A colour key removes a chosen background colour. AI attempts to separate the subject from the scene, which can help with several colours or photographic detail.
- People and moving subjects: backgrounds that change behind a subject across frames.
- Hair, fur and fine edges: inspect the result for missing details, halos and flicker.
- Busy backgrounds: scenes that cannot be separated using a single colour.
Results vary with motion blur, overlapping objects and similar foreground and background colours. GIF supports a transparent colour rather than smooth partial transparency, so glass and soft shadows may not retain their original appearance.

How much do credits cost?
Starter costs $2.99 USD for 150 credits. Value costs $4.99 USD for 300 credits. Standard GIF background removal currently uses 1 credit per animation second, rounded up once per file: 8.4 seconds uses 9 credits. Processing wait time does not count. Both packs support eligible GIFs up to 30 seconds. There is no subscription; unused credits do not expire.
Why do I need to sign in?
Google sign-in links your welcome credits, purchased credits and saved results to one account. There is no separate GIFClear password. Your selected GIF can stay in this browser for up to 30 minutes during sign-in.
What are the file limits?
Every GIF: up to 10 MiB, 1024 × 1024 pixels, 30 seconds, 300 frames and 36 million decoded pixels. The same limits apply to welcome and purchased credits. Explicit frame delays of at least 20 ms are required. The upload area checks your file before submitting.
Does the result stay animated and transparent?
We check the result dimensions and full-loop duration before saving a transparent animated GIF. Review the full loop for missing details. AI quality varies, and rerunning a file does not guarantee improvement.
How long does processing take?
AI processing can take several minutes. The page checks your saved task automatically. Closing the page does not cancel processing, release reserved credits. Return with the same account to check it; do not submit the file again.
Failed tasks, refunds and expiry
Confirmed processing failures return the welcome and purchased credits reserved for that task. Tasks with unknown outcomes remain reserved until checked. A successful saved result uses its displayed credits even if you dislike it. Each result is available for 24 hours; downloading it again uses no credits. If a confirmed purchase cannot be delivered, contact support@gifclear.com with your order ID so we can restore delivery or refund the purchase. See our terms.
Where does my file go?
On explicit submission GIFClear temporarily stores your upload and provides its AI processing provider with a signed source link valid for one hour. Results are saved for 24 hours and expired files are removed by maintenance. The provider has its own handling and retention policy. See our privacy policy.
